I SURVIVED!!!!

Yep! Camping in Minnesota. We just got back from our camping trip, and all in all it went rather well. The first night we got there at dusk. We had to hurry to put our tents up before dark, and at the same time fighting the mosquitoes! The mosquitoes won!

When I saw the tent up, I was afraid that our air mattress wasn't going to fit into the middle tent, but Roger fixed it nice for me, and we slept well in our sleeping bags. The boys had one side, and Emma and Caleb had the other side. They all did well sleeping in the night, and true to their sleeping schedule they were up by 6:45am. Just so you know, it is very hard to have children quiet while others are sleeping. We went camping with Tara and her family, and Kirk, Maria, and Mason-this was their first camping trip!

Camping in Minnesota is different from camping in Utah. First you will always be by a lake. Second, mosquitoes everywhere- lucky for us they didn't appear until dusk. (and for the record, did you know they leave at 10:30 at night? It was nice to be at the campfire and not worry about them buggers!) Third, not a lot of places to hike, unless you head up way north!
The children had a blast playing at the lake. They played in the sand, went fishing, and went swimming!

Bad mom award-Caleb is eating cheerios in the sand that he found-they are ours, but I am sure they were crunchy!

The children loved the dads building them a little sand pool by the lake!

This campground also had a playground for the children to play in, and that was a nice break for the children when they were done at the lake.

Tara did a great job getting our camping trip together. She was thoughtful enough to make sure they had showers and flushing toilets for me!:) The food was great, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

Ethan and Isaac

Mason and Blake

The best way to end a camping trip? Roasting marshmallows and starbursts!!!
Would I do it again.......maybe?

Roasted Starbursts? Interesting. You are a good Mom to take your kids camping. They will look back on thise memories and laugh as adults. I'm glad you're back.

Looks like fun, did Tara bring her other girls too? How did Mason do? I'm glad the kids at least got in a MN camping experience this year. It's not a Utah camping experience, but there's always next year!!!

I'll go for you next time, ok? That sounds like a blast and how exciting you went with Tara :)
And you'd only get the bad mom award if you let him eat cigarette butts or something *really* gross like that, LOL!!!

That's what camping is all about--getting dirty, eating crazy things (like roasted starbursts and sandy cheerios), and having a great time making fun memories! You win the awesome mom award in my book!
