It's Hot!!

Our first week here in Virginia has been a very HOT week. Reaching close to the 100s, we decided to stay indoors and visit one of many museums in the DC area.
My first time seeing the National Monument. It was breathtaking!!
Downtown Washington DC
We decided to go to the National Museum of American History. It was voted Best 15 places to takes Kids in Washington DC.
We just didn't know we had to walk five to six blocks in the 100 degree weather to get there....and I think everyone else had the same idea, because it was so crowded we had to wait in lines just to look at the exhibits!
Price of Freedom Exhibit
a piece of the Berlin wall
a beautiful doll house made from a father. My daughter loved looking at the many rooms, furniture and little doll pieces. She's on a mission to have her father built her one just like that!
Locomotives for the train-lovers!
We also stopped for lunch at the Hard Rock cafe for one reason only....
...Michael Jackson's coat!! My children love listening to Michael Jackson and wanted to see the infamous red jacket that he wore!
We decided that we won't be going to any museums again on a weekend and that we will stick to swimming pools to beat the heat out here. At least, until peak tourist season is over......I hope!

Ewwwwww. You know how I feel about crowds, and heat, and humidity. Way to tough it out! Looks like a fun adventure. What are your pool options? Neighborhood pools, or community pools. Hope you have a good one. :). Stay cool!

It is wonderful that you have time to explore before school starts! I can appreciate making plans to do the exploring during the week to avoid the crowds. How long does it take to get downtown? Do you leverage public transportation? I recall thinking the DC subway system as being great, but it has now been 15 years since I experienced it. I love living vicariously through you!
